Mountain cats, also known as cougars, pumas or mountain lions, are solitary and territorial wild cats found in the mountainous regions of North and South America. They are known for their agility, strength and hunting skills. These majestic felines have different names based on their geographical location. For instance, in the Andes, they are called Andean mountain cats, while in the Southern Rockies, they are known as Florida panthers. Similarly, they are called red lions in California and silver lions in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Regardless of their names, mountain cats are vital apex predators and play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitats.
