Mule-jenny, also called a spinning mule, is a machine used in the textile industry to spin cotton and wool into yarn and thread. There are several synonyms for this term, including spinning frame, spinning machine, spinning wheel, and textile machine. These machines, which were invented during the Industrial Revolution, dramatically increased the efficiency and speed of textile production. The mule-jenny was named for its hybrid design, which combined features of the spinning jenny and the water-powered mule. Although these machines have largely been replaced by modern spinning technology, the mule-jenny remains an important part of textile history and the development of industry.
