A nature reserve is typically a protected area of land or water designated for the preservation of wildlife, plants and their natural habitats. It is often also referred to as a national park, wildlife sanctuary, conservation area, or wildlife refuge. These terms all encompass the same basic concept: a place where the natural environment is protected from human activity to allow for the preservation and conservation of its ecosystems. Other related terms include biosphere reserve, ecological reserve, natural area, and conservation park. Whatever the name, the purpose is the same: to protect and conserve nature for our enjoyment and that of future generations.
