Neotoma floridana, commonly known as the eastern woodrat or Florida woodrat, is a species of rodent found primarily in the eastern United States. Synonyms for this species include Rheomys floridana, Neotoma fuscipes floridana, and Neotoma floridensis. These synonyms were established due to different interpretations of the species' taxonomic classification, with some experts considering the eastern woodrat to be a subspecies of the Mexican woodrat while others believed it to be a distinct species. Regardless of its taxonomic status, the eastern woodrat is known for its characteristic habit of collecting and storing various objects, such as sticks and rocks, in and around its nest.
