Neurocysticercosis is a parasitic infection of the brain caused by infestation with the tapeworm Taenia solium. This condition is commonly referred to as cerebral cysticercosis and is characterized by the formation of cysticerci, or fluid-filled sacs, within the brain tissue. The symptoms of neurocysticercosis can include seizures, headaches, confusion, memory loss, and visual disturbances. In medical literature, this condition may also be referred to as neurohelminthiasis, taeniasis, or taeniosis cerebral cysticercosis. Additionally, other terms that may be used synonymously with neurocysticercosis include metacestodiasis, cestodiasis, cysticercal meningitis, and neurocysticercal disease.
