New Scotland Yard is synonymously known as the Metropolitan Police Service Headquarters. It is also commonly referred to as the Yard, the New Yard, the London Metropolitan Police, or simply as Scotland Yard. The name Scotland Yard actually originated from the location of the original headquarters, which was located on Great Scotland Yard in London's Whitehall district. However, the headquarters were moved to a new location on Victoria Street in 1890, and the building was given the name New Scotland Yard. In recent times, the building has been relocated to a new site on the Embankment, and is now called New Scotland Yard again.
