There are several synonyms for NGO, such as not-for-profit organization, civil society organization, charity, voluntary organization, and citizen groups. Not-for-profit organizations are typically independent of government and are established to provide public services, whereas civil society organizations are formed by citizens to promote and protect their interests. Charities, voluntary organizations, and citizen groups are all types of non-governmental organizations that aim to address social issues and improve communities.
