The oceanic whitetip shark is also known as the "langun" shark in the Maldives and "man-eater" in the Red Sea. In Japanese, it is called "shiralga" while in Portuguese, it is referred to as "tubarão-de-pontas-brancas". It is also known as the "nigano" shark in Hawaii, "tintorera" in Spain, "silvertip" or "smooth jagged-toothed shark" in South Africa, and "shark of death" in Cuba. Another synonym for the oceanic whitetip shark is "sea wolf" or "the pack of the sea". Despite its various names, the oceanic whitetip shark is considered to be a dangerous predator and should be approached with caution.
