Okapia johnstoni is a unique and little-known species of giraffe that is native to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Also referred to as the forest giraffe, Zaire giraffe or Congo giraffe, O. johnstoni has distinctive features that distinguish it from other giraffe subspecies. Unlike other giraffe species, the O. johnstoni has a dark, reddish-brown coat with white stripes and spots, and a shorter neck.
