The term "Order Amoebida" refers to a group of microscopic protozoans that move using pseudopodia, or temporary extensions of the cell membrane. There are a number of synonymous terms that can be used to refer to this order, including Amoebas, amoebae, and amoeboids. Other terms that are sometimes used to describe these organisms include amoebocytes, amebocytes, and amoebocysts. Additionally, some scientists refer to the Order Amoebida as the Subclass Lobosa, or the Phylum Amoebozoa. Despite the many different terms that are used to describe these organisms, they are all characterized by their unique method of movement and their simple cell structure.
