The order Myricales is a group of shrubs and small trees, commonly known as the bayberry family. Some possible synonyms for Myricales are Myricaceae, the scientific name for the family, or simply Bayberry order, after the most well-known genus in the group. Alternatively, the order could be referred to as the Wax Myrtle order, after another common genus within Myricales. Other lesser-known genera in the order include Comptonia, Canacomyrica, and Discaria. While Myricales may not be as widely recognized as other plant families, its members are cherished for their fragrant foliage, medicinal properties, and ecological importance as habitat providers.
