Taxales is an order of conifers that includes three families: Taxaceae, Cephalotaxaceae and Podocarpaceae. Although there are no official synonyms for the order Taxales, it can be referred to as the yew, plum yew, or podocarp order. Taxaceae, one of the families included in Taxales, is commonly known as the yew family and comprises five genera, including Taxus, which contains the well-known English yew tree. The Cephalotaxaceae family is often referred to as the plum-yew family and includes three genera, the most well-known of which is Cephalotaxus. Podocarpaceae, the largest family within Taxales, is sometimes called the podocarp family and includes around 200 species.
