The Ordovician Period is one of the six periods that make up the Paleozoic Era. It lasted from approximately 485 to 443 million years ago. Other synonyms for the Ordovician Period include the Early Palaeozoic, the Lower Palaeozoic, and the Llandoverian Period. The period was named after the Ordovices, a tribe of ancient Britons who lived in Wales during the Roman Empire.
