Pancreas divisum refers to a condition where the pancreas fails to merge fully during fetal development. This results in two separate pancreatic ducts that consequently drain separately into the small intestine. There are various synonyms used to describe this condition, including "division of the pancreas," "split pancreas," and "pancreatic divisum." Other synonyms for pancreas divisum include "divisum pancreas," "pancreas duodeni divisum," and "annular pancreas," which is a rare variant of the condition where the head of the pancreas encircles the second part of the duodenum. Regardless of the terminology used, the condition can cause pancreatic duct blockage and lead to digestive problems.
