Para nymphs are young insects that appear in-between different stages of molting. They are also known as subimagoes or dun. These terms are used interchangeably to refer to this developmental stage of several insect species, like mayflies, stoneflies, and dragonflies. Para nymphs have small wings and can fly but are not yet fully mature. These insects also have a distinct appearance that sets them apart from other insect life stages. In some instances, the term "naiad" is also used to refer to para nymphs or juvenile aquatic insects, particularly those that live and grow in freshwater habitats.
