Pattern bargaining is a common practice in labor relations where unions negotiate with employers over wage increases, benefits, and working conditions based on previously established patterns in similar industries. The term has become synonymous with collective bargaining and has various terms associated with it. Some of these include industry-wide bargaining, centralized bargaining, multi-employer bargaining, and master bargaining. Other terms frequently used when discussing the collective bargaining process include consensus bargaining, mutual gains bargaining, interest-based bargaining, and problem-solving bargaining. In essence, any agreement negotiated among employers and employees that establishes a pattern for future negotiations can be considered pattern bargaining.
