Phallus ravenelii is a species of fungi commonly known as the Ravenel's stinkhorn or the phallus stinkhorn. This peculiar fungus is characterized by a long, slender stem that ends in a bell-shaped, foul-smelling cap which is covered in a slimy brownish-green substance. This incredibly odd fungus goes by several synonyms due to its unique appearance including Dictyophora ravenelii, Phallus hadriani, and Phallus rubicundus. Despite its repugnant odor, Phallus ravenelii is considered an edible delicacy in various cultures such as China, Korea and Thailand. While the pungent scent of the fungus may turn off some, it is visually fascinating and has become a popular subject for macrophotography.
