Pharynges, also known as the pharynx, is the part of the digestive tract that connects the mouth and the esophagus. While there are no true synonyms for this anatomical structure, there are various terms that can be used to describe its different regions. For instance, there is the nasopharynx which starts at the back of the nasal cavity and ends at the soft palate; the oropharynx which spans from the soft palate to the base of the tongue; and the laryngopharynx which starts at the base of the tongue and ends at the entrance of the esophagus. Other terms that can be used interchangeably with pharynges include throat, gullet, and food pipe.
