Pigment dispersion syndrome is a condition where pigment granules in the iris dislodge and spread into the fluid in the front of the eye, causing high intraocular pressure which can lead to glaucoma. Some synonyms for pigment dispersion syndrome include iris transillumination defects, iris pigment shedding syndrome, and pigmentary glaucoma. Other related terms include pigmentary dispersion syndrome (PDS), which is a milder form of the condition, and pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF), which is a condition where abnormal protein fibers accumulate in the eye and can also cause increased intraocular pressure. Early diagnosis and treatment of pigment dispersion syndrome is important in preventing vision loss and maintaining eye health.
