Piperocaine is a local anaesthetic drug used for pain relief during medical procedures. There are a number of synonyms for the word piperocaine, including piperocaine hydrochloride, diethylaminoethyl 4-aminobenzoate, and N-(2-Diethylaminoethyl)-4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester. Other synonyms for this drug include ethyl 4-(N-(2-diethylaminoethyl)amino)benzoate and benzocaine diethylaminoethyl ether. Piperocaine is similar in structure to benzocaine, a commonly used local anaesthetic, and the two drugs have similar effects and indications. However, piperocaine has been found to be more toxic than benzocaine and is therefore less frequently used in medical practice.
