The term "Plains Indian" is commonly used to refer to the Indigenous peoples who inhabited the Great Plains region of North America. However, there are many other terms that were historically used to describe these peoples, including "Buffalo Indians," "Prairie Indians," and "Sioux Indians." More recently, scholars have begun to use more specific terms to refer to the diverse groups of Indigenous peoples who lived on the Plains, such as the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Blackfoot. While these terms are more accurate and respectful, it's important to recognize that they don't necessarily represent the ways that Plains peoples identified and named themselves.
