Plant anatomy is the study of the internal structure of plants, including their tissues and organs. Sometimes, this branch of biology may be referred to as phytotomy or vegetable anatomy. The word phytotomy comes from the Greek words "phyton" (plant) and "tomia" (section). Vegetable anatomy, meanwhile, is a more generalized term that refers to the study of the structure and function of all parts of a vegetable organism. In addition, the terms botanical anatomy and floral anatomy may be used to describe the internal structure of plants and flowers, respectively. Ultimately, all of these synonyms refer to the fascinating and complex study of the inner workings of plants.
