Polypodium Polypodioides is a type of fern commonly found in North and Central America. It is also known by several other names such as Resurrection Fern, Licorice Fern, and Walking Fern. The Resurrection Fern nickname comes from its ability to appear dead and brown during dry spells, but turn green and healthy-looking again after a single rain. Licorice Fern is named for the scent of its roots that resemble licorice. Walking Fern got its name because of its ability to sprout new ferns along the length of its fronds, making it appear like it is "walking" across the ground. All of these names refer to the same distinctive and beloved species of fern.
