A pop fly, also known as a fly ball or a fly out, refers to a baseball hit that is hit high into the air and within the reach of the fielders. The term "pop" is used because of the sound made when the ball makes contact with the bat. Other synonyms for pop fly include "sky-high fly", "high fly ball", or simply "pop-up". This type of hit often results in an easy out for the fielding team if they are positioned correctly. Pop flies can be difficult for the fielder to catch due to the unpredictable trajectory of the ball.
