Porphyrula Martinica commonly known as the Purple Gallinule is a beautiful bird found in North, Central and South America. It has unique and vibrant plumage consisting of deep-blue, violet, greens, and purples. The Purple Gallinule is sometimes referred to as the "swamp hen" due to its preference for marshy areas. Other synonyms for the Purple Gallinule include Ixobrychus martinica, Porphyrio martinica, and Ionornis martinicus among others. Despite its stunning appearance, the Purple Gallinule is a relatively unknown bird species and its habitat and population are under threat due to environmental degradation.
