Portuguese Indian Escudo is the currency of the former Portuguese colony in India before it gained independence in 1961. Some synonyms for Portuguese Indian Escudo include Portuguese Indian Rupee, Portuguese Indian Pataca, and Portuguese Indian Tanga. These currencies were used during different periods in Indian history before the country adopted its own currency, the Indian rupee, in 1950. The Portuguese Indian Escudo was primarily used in the Indian state of Goa, as well as the former Portuguese settlements of Daman, Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. While these currencies are no longer in use, they are an important part of the history and culture of Portugal and India.
