Pristis pectinatus is commonly known as the smalltooth sawfish and is one of the five species of sawfishes. It is a flat and slender shark-like fish with a long snout filled with sharp teeth-like structures, called rostral teeth. Some of the synonyms for Pristis pectinatus include the knifetooth sawfish, the narrow sawfish, and the slender sawfish. Other common synonyms for Pristis pectinatus include its old scientific name Pristis microdon, as well as the name serrated sawfish. It inhabits warm shallow waters in the Indo-Pacific region and is listed as critically endangered, with habitat loss and overfishing being some of the leading threats to its survival.
