Programmable Read-Only Memories, commonly known as PROMs, are electronic integrated circuits that can be programmed once to store data permanently. However, there are various synonyms for PROMs that are commonly used in the industry. One of them is "one-time programmable memory" or OTP, which is often used in applications where the data stored in the memory will not change. Another synonym is "field-programmable read-only memory" or FPROM, which can be programmed in the field after manufacture. This flexibility makes it useful in applications where data needs to be updated or revised after the initial programming. Additionally, "erasable programmable read-only memory" or EPROM, provides a means of erasing the memory and reprogramming it, making it useful for prototyping and testing applications.
