Pseudopregnancy is a false or fake pregnancy condition that is also known as false pregnancy or phantom pregnancy. This condition is commonly found in animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits. In humans, pseudopregnancy is a psychological disorder characterized by the development of symptoms similar to that of pregnancy, such as missed period, nausea and morning sickness, swollen belly, and breast enlargement. The term pseudopregnancy is interchangeable with terms such as hysterical pregnancy, spurious pregnancy, and phantom gestation. While the term pseudocyesis is used to describe the false pregnancy condition in humans, the terms pseudoviviparity and pseudolactation are used in animals.
