Reed-mace, also known as bulrush, is a common wetland plant found across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Given its wide distribution and cultural significance, it has many synonyms depending on the region. In North America, it is often referred to as cattail or punks. In Europe, it is known as cat o' nine tails, great reedmace, or bullrush. In Africa, it is commonly called typha, and in Asia, it is known as puju. Although these synonyms may sound vastly different from each other, they all refer to the unique, cylindrical seed heads that are characteristic of this versatile and beloved wetland plant.
