"Rode knee" is a term commonly used to describe a medical condition known as patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). This condition occurs when there is pain in the front of the knee and is often experienced by athletes who engage in activities such as running, jumping or cycling. There are several synonyms that can be used to describe this condition including jumper's knee, runner's knee, anterior knee pain syndrome, and chondromalacia patellae. These all describe the same condition which is caused by overuse, a misaligned kneecap, weak muscles, or a combination of all three. Treatment for this condition may include rest, physical therapy, or surgery in severe cases.
