The royal penguin, also known as the macaroni penguin or crested penguin, is a species of penguin found in sub-Antarctic islands. This unique breed is easily identifiable by its yellow and black crest on its head and bright-red eyes. Synonyms for the royal penguin include the rockhopper penguin, named for its ability to hop up rocky terrain, and the tuxedo penguin, referencing its formal black-and-white appearance. Additionally, the northern rockhopper penguin and the southern rockhopper penguin are considered to be two separate subspecies of the rockhopper penguin family. While they all share similarities in appearance and behavior, each type of penguin has its own distinct characteristics.
