RPD or Removable Partial Denture is a dental prosthesis used to replace one or more missing teeth. There are several synonyms for the term RPD, including removable dental prosthesis, partial denture, and removable bridge. Another synonym that is used interchangeably with RPD is a flipper. This term is used for a temporary removable partial denture that is usually used during the healing period after a tooth extraction. Another synonymous term is interim partial denture, which is also a temporary replacement option for missing teeth. Regardless of the name used, the goal of an RPD is to improve oral function and esthetics by replacing missing teeth with a removable prosthesis.
