Russian almond, also known as Siberian almond, is a small deciduous shrub or tree that is native to a vast region of northern Asia and Eastern Europe. The tree is usually grown for ornamental purposes as it produces lovely pink to white flowers in early spring. However, it is also cultivated for its edible nuts, which are similar in taste to almonds but smaller in size. Russian almond has a number of synonyms, including dwarf almond, Amygdalus nana, Prunus tenella, and Prunus pumila. Its scientific name is Prunus tenella. The shrub can grow up to 10ft tall and is tolerant of drought and cold climates.
