Salix Babylonica, commonly known as weeping willow, is a synonym for many other related tree species. Some of the common synonyms for this tree include Babylonia, Babylonian willow, Chinese willow, and Peking willow. The tree is native to China and is now widely grown in many parts of the world due to its impressive looks, adaptability and ability to grow quickly. Its branches hang down like tree curtains or weep, hence its name "weeping willow." Other synonyms for Salix Babylonica include Salix matsudana, a hybrid of the weeping willow and the Chinese willow, and Salix babylonica var. Peinemenius, a Chinese native species. All these types of willows have similarities in their appearance and characteristics, making them commonly referred to as the "weeping willow family".
