Sand eel, also known as sand lance, is a type of fish commonly found in the shallow waters around sandy beaches and rocky coastlines. However, this species is not limited to the name sand eel; it has several synonyms depending on the region and language. In the United States, it is also called "silver eel," while in the United Kingdom, it can be referred to as "sandles," "lant," or "laufstark." In Denmark, sand eel is known as the "sandsild," and in Russia, it is called "stavrida." Whatever name it may be known by, the sand eel remains an important food source for many marine animals, including seabirds, whales, and other fish.
