A sandbur, also known as a sandspur or burgrass, is a type of weed that is commonly found in sandy areas. There are several other synonyms for this pesky plant, including prickleweed, stickerweed, and thorngrass. Its spiky seed heads are notorious for getting stuck in clothing, dog fur, and bare feet, causing irritation and discomfort. Other synonymous terms include beggar's ticks, hedgehog burr, and puncturevine. Its scientific name is Cenchrus echinatus, but it is more commonly known by these many different colloquial names. Whatever the name may be, sandburs are a nuisance that many people would rather do without.
