Shy people are undoubtedly unique individuals who possess many endearing qualities. Some synonyms such as introverted, withdrawn, timid, hesitant and reticent can be used interchangeably with the word "shy". Such individuals tend to keep to themselves and avoid social situations, preferring instead to be alone or with a small group of people they are comfortable with. Although they may appear aloof or stand-offish, shy people are often kind-hearted, thoughtful and observant people who take their time to warm up to others. There is certainly nothing wrong with being shy, and it is important to acknowledge and accept the diversity of individual personalities in our society.
