The Simien jackal, also known as the Ethiopian wolf or the Abyssinian wolf, is a critically endangered species found only in the Ethiopian Highlands. These wolves are known for their distinctive red fur and long legs, which allow them to easily navigate through rocky terrain. Unfortunately, the Simien jackal's population has been threatened by habitat loss, hunting, and disease. As a result, conservation efforts have been put in place to help protect this species. Synonyms for the Simien jackal include the Abyssinian fox, the Ethiopian fox, and the red fox. Despite their name, these wolves are not actually closely related to the true jackals.
