The Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy that orbits around the Milky Way. It is also known as the SMC, Nubecula Minor or simply the Small Cloud. In Chinese astronomy, it is called the "Little Fox" constellation. The SMC is located in the constellation Tucana, and it is visible from the southern hemisphere. According to some sources, the Small Magellanic Cloud was named after Ferdinand Magellan, the famous Portuguese explorer who circumnavigated the Earth in the 16th century.
