The term "South African pound" is no longer in use since South Africa adopted the Rand as its currency in 1961. However, some synonyms for the old currency used in the past include "ZAR," which stands for South African Rand, and "SAF," which stands for South African Florin. Before the Rand, the South African pound was known as the "Pound Sterling" or simply the "pound." Other synonyms that were used for the country's currency included "South African shilling" and "South African crown." While some of these terms might still be used in historical or nostalgic contexts, the only currency that is currently recognized and used in South Africa is the Rand.
