The spiny anteater, also known as the echidna, is a unique and fascinating animal found mainly in Australia and New Guinea. There are several other names and synonyms for this wonderful creature including the spiny echidna, Tachyglossus aculeatus, and two genera of short-beaked echidnas - Zaglossus and Tachyglossus. They are well-known for their unique appearance, covered in sharp spines that protect them from predators. Echidnas are also one of only two known mammals that lay eggs, known as monotremes.
