Split-brain refers to a condition in which the two hemispheres of the brain are disconnected, usually as a result of surgery to treat severe epilepsy. There are several synonyms for this term. One of the most common is corpus callosotomy, a surgical procedure that cuts the corpus callosum, the bundle of nerve fibers that connects the two hemispheres of the brain. Another synonymous term is hemispheric disconnection, which refers to the interruption of communication between the two hemispheres. In some cases, the term disconnective syndrome may also be used to describe this condition. Regardless of the term used, split-brain individuals often exhibit unique behaviors and thought processes due to the division of their brain.
