Stage managers, also known as production supervisors, are the backbone of any theatrical performance. They are in charge of coordinating everything from rehearsals to set changes, lighting, sound, costumes, and props. But, did you know that there are different terms used to describe stage managers in different parts of the world? For instance, in the UK, stage managers are called deputy stage managers or DSMs, while in Australia, they are referred to as show callers. In France, the term is regisseur general, and in Germany, it is Inspizient. No matter the term used, the importance of the role of stage managers in ensuring a seamless and successful production cannot be overstated.
