Steely Hair Syndromes, also known as Trichothiodystrophy, is a rare genetic disorder characterized by abnormal hair texture, growth, and color. While "Steely Hair Syndromes" is the widely accepted term for this condition, there are several synonymous names used in medical literature. These include Tiger Tail Banding Syndrome, TTD, BIDS (BIDS17 and BIDS28), or Ichthyosis Trichothiodystrophy (ITTD). All these terms represent the same group of inherited disorders affecting the hair's structural protein. Despite varied names, the manifestations of these syndromes remain consistent, such as brittle, sparse, or wiry hair, along with associated extracutaneous features. Understanding these synonyms allows medical professionals and affected individuals to communicate effectively while discussing this unique set of genetic conditions.
