The Straits Dollar was the currency used in the Straits Settlements, namely Singapore, Penang, and Malacca in the 1800s. Synonyms or alternative names used for the Straits Dollar include the Malay dollar, the Borneo dollar, and the Sarawak Dollar. These were currencies used in the British colonies of the same names that were later merged with the Straits Settlements. The British authorities also introduced a currency called the Malayan dollar, which was a standardized currency across all the colonies. The Straits Dollar continued to be used until 1967 when it was replaced by the Malaysian Ringgit and the Singapore Dollar. Today, the Straits Dollar is considered a historical artifact rather than a currency in use.
