A strawberry hemangioma is a common type of birthmark that appears on the skin. It is also known as a strawberry mark, capillary hemangioma, or infantile hemangioma. These birthmarks usually appear as bright red patches on the skin and are caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels in that area. Other synonyms for strawberry hemangioma include nevus flammeus, vascular birthmark, and port-wine stain. While most strawberry hemangiomas fade on their own over time, some may need medical treatment if they are large or cause complications such as bleeding or obstruction of vision or breathing.
