This scaly creature is highly sought after for its meat and scales, which are used in traditional medicine. There are many synonyms for this unique animal, including the trenggiling, tenggiling, or trenggiling baik in Malay, and manis javanica in Latin. In Indonesian, it is called biawak tutul or biawak kadal. The Tagalog term for the Sunda pangolin is balintong, while in Thai it is called sala kae.
