Symptomatic anthrax is a serious bacterial infection that can be fatal if left untreated. Some synonyms for the term symptomatic anthrax include inhalation anthrax, pulmonary anthrax, and gastro-intestinal anthrax. The inhalation form of this disease occurs when the bacteria are inhaled, usually through exposure to contaminated animal products like wool or hides. Gastro-intestinal anthrax is caused by consuming contaminated meat from infected animals. Both forms produce severe symptoms, including fever, fatigue, respiratory distress and gastrointestinal symptoms.
