Synarthrosis is a type of joint in which the bones are fused together and movement is limited or absent. Synarthrosis joints are found in the skull and at certain points in the spine and pelvis. The term synarthrosis is derived from the Greek words "syn" meaning together and "arthrosis" meaning joint. Some synonyms for the word synarthrosis include immovable joint, sutural joint, fibrous joint and synchondrosis joint. Immovable joint describes the function of this type of joint, while sutural joint and fibrous joint refer to the structural features of the joint. Synchondrosis joint refers specifically to joints that are connected by hyaline cartilage.
